Real Estate Law
Our lawyers act for real estate developers, owners, secured lenders and investors of many backgrounds from private clients to public bodies, including governmental and indigenous public bodies. On behalf of our clients we have acted on major real estate projects and transactions, including public-private (P3) projects, construction projects and secured financing, lands involved in natural resource development, aboriginal land use planning and development.
In Nunavut, where real property is subject to the detailed provisions of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, for more than twenty years we have developed expertise in the acquisition, ownership, development and financing of real property interests, including interests in federal, territorial, municipal and Inuit Owned Lands.
On behalf of our clients we regularly interact with federal, territorial and local government offices in relation to titled and non-titled lands and land registration, or in relation to construction projects, including condominiums, as well as commercial mortgage lending on behalf of banks and other institutional lenders.
Our practice includes the enforcement of rights and obligations relating to real property interests, including Court foreclosures and receivership. Our daily practice also includes residential and commercial transactions on behalf of buyers, sellers and lenders whether for homeowners or in relation to commercial business interests.
